44: CRAZY IMPORTANCE

I sit here on my (now over) snow day to bring you some good news on my debut album! I know it’s been a long wait. It seems like I’ve been telling you there’s going to be an album out for years now. But the truth is, it’s only been about 1. So what it is this news you may be asking. Well here it is.

The album, titled “Zackery Wilson” will see 2 forms of release. One form is a physical, “special edition” version of the album which (if money permits) will be limited to 100 copies. This version will contain a small book with lyrics to all 11 of the songs featured on the album. The book will also contain original photography by yours truly. Here is the cover.

The second form is a standard digital release which will contain 9 songs. This version of the album will be released on my Bandcamp page on June 12. I will add a digital booklet with the lyrics. Here is the digital cover:

The track listing for each of the versions is the following:

STANDARD:

  1. Take It Lightly
  2. Be Free
  3. In the Sky
  4. Maybe I’m Broken
  5. Those Times
  6. What Am I
  7. Despite Them
  8. Back of the Room
  9. Shadow

SPECIAL:

  1. Take It Lightly
  2. Be Free
  3. Sleep
  4. In the Sky
  5. Maybe I’m Broken
  6. Those Times
  7. What Am I
  8. Despite Them
  9. Back of the Room
  10. Too Long
  11. Shadow

So there you have it folks. I’m still playing around with the inside art. Right now I’m not too sure about it but you know me and how wishy washy I am. I’ll have the final version done by tomorrow and share that with ya’ll.

For now, I’m going to go listen to my new Memoryhouse CD and talk to you guys about all my thoughts on fabulous topics in reality tv. Have a nice night.

43: American Idol

I’ve recently been watching American Idol… I don’t know how I got sucked into this thing but you know. Things happen. My current bet on who I think is going to win the whole thing (I know it’s a little early) is Phillip Phillips. I’m not really sure what to think of the other contestants. I really like Heejun but I don’t think he’s going to go far. I think Eben is another competitor but I have a feeling he won’t make it past the final 7. He’s too young.

I sit there and watch the show and think… I actually want to do this? What is wrong with me? I don’t feel like I’m personally good enough to make it so far as the final 24. It’s crazy though because I bet every single person in the final 24 thought the same exact thing. Season 12 here I (hopefully) come!

On to my music. I’m almost done with Be Free. This one is a little trickier than “Take it Lightly”. I’m not sure on the vocal volume and all that jazz but I just need to get over it. Also, I’m going to add two more tracks to the upcoming “Take It Lightly” single (released March 12), making it more of an EP. Here’s the track listing:

If you didn’t notice… I’m moving the release of this EP up to March 12, which is only a couple of days away. March seems like more of a suitable release. It’ll be even more of a tease because you’ll have to wait 3 months until the album.

I’ve been working hard lately and have quite a few songs that need completing… like… a lot. upwards of 5. I need to get busy.

Right now you can download for FREE the first single off the album, “Shadow” and you can do that here.

41: One Song Down w/ Some More Progress

So I sit here listening to Lana Del Rey’s new album Born to Die. One word: FABULOUS. She’s that artist that comes around scarcely that is sooo polarizing: you seem to either love her or hate her. Yes, she bombed SNL but that was one performance and yeah she came from a rich family but that’s not what’s propelled her to this type of stardom. No. She did it herself.

More importantly, I finished one song. Finished meaning fully recorded, fully mixed and fully ready to be released on the album which comes out on June 4. The song I’ve finished is “Take It Lightly” which will be released on April 30 as the second from the single from my debut album. “Shadow”, the first single is available to download here.

Lately I’ve been practicing in the piano rooms and I’ve come up with some good new material that I think will make it on the album.

One of the songs which is tentatively called “What Am I?” is about that struggle of finding who you really are and then showing that person to the world. The other few songs are currently just melodies that I will work on developing here in the next few weeks.

I’ve also come back to a really old song called “Tara” that is…. just weird, part of my darker writing style, along the lines as “I Want to Sleep”. I’ve been having a little trouble even seeing where this whole project is going to I’m as excited to see how this thing turns out as you are. Again, the final product will be 10-12 songs. Here is the list of tracks that WILL appear:

  1. Take It Lightly
  2. Shadow
  3. Be Free
  4. Back of the Room
  5. Break Through Time (tentative title)

So that’s it for today, I’ll be back sometime soon with some more news!!!! ttfn

Back for another round of the blogging, the fortieth to be exact!!! This week I come to you with not much news, but just some jibber jabber about random things.

Recording is going… not at all. I haven’t really recorded anything with my microphone yet but I will starting hopefully next week.

Also, up in the menu there is a new tab called “gallery” which is most of the pictures I’ve taken. I might even use one of them as the album cover since the whole underwater concept hasn’t exactly been working out. Also, the blog banner is different and the “ZW” is the logo that is going to be used on the front of the cover.

I’ve slightly altered the covers for “Shadow” and “Take It Lightly” but they aren’t too different, just a little more contrast-y than the originals.

So lets talk Lana Del Rey. I discoverd her music a few weeks ago before she performed on Saturday Night Live, which in her case was a big mistake. She….. well she wasn’t great but she wasn’t as terrible as many say she was. You can watch her performance of one her really fantastic songs (that she didn’t do much justice) below:

She doesn’t sound bad in any other live performances that I’ve heard her in so I think she was just nervous.

This performance in turn made me super duper nervous for the first time I perform in front of people. I was thinking of maybe trying to set up a show sometime at the very end of May/ very beginning June right before the release of the album which comes out in June 4 at my friends art show which (tentatively) runs June 4 and 5. The digital release of the album will be on June 12, a week later.

Here is the new cover of Take It Lightly:

Well hellllo there! I’ve been working on the album a little bit lately. I’ve been mainly re-writing a lot of the songs I have prepared, making them the best I possibly can make them!!! I’ve decided that I’m going to include the song “Shadow” on the album. I think it’s a really strong track, one of my favorites.

I gave “Shadow” a new cover so it goes more along the lines of the overall theme of the upcoming album… well, at least the single covers.

You’ve probably heard the song before but here, you can listen to it again and if you haven’t, you can download it!!! 🙂

So far I know of just four songs that I for sure want to be on the album:

  1. Back of the Room
  2. Be Free
  3. Take it Lightly
  4. Shadow

So I’ve got 4 for sure songs…. now I just need 7 more.

38: HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hello all! Hope you had a WONDERFUL new years eve, I know I did! I’m looking forward to putting 2011 behind us and taking 2012 in with open arms.

Looking back on 2011 I realize how many great opportunities I’ve had and how many new experiences I’ve come across.

The most memorable thing from the year, to me, was recording in an actual studio. I got three songs done at Custom Recording Studios in Golden Valley, MN (Shadow, Be Free, and Man). It was a really great experience even though it costed me an arm and a leg.

So many other great things happened in the past year that I’m looking forward to all the even greater things that are going to happen this year. The two things that I want to accomplish this year are:

  • Releasing a full length album (JUNE MY FRIENDS!)
  • Performing live

I’ve never performed live, in fact I’ve only sung in front of two people: my mom, and Jim Reynolds (the guy at the recording studio).

Singing live makes my REALLY nervous but it’s something I’m going to have to do in order to be an accomplished singer. I’m gonna start off maybe at open mic nights or something to ease myself into it.

So moving past all of that, I got this great new microphone that is going to make the sound of my debut album GREAT! I already recorded a demo of “Take It Lightly” at home. That demo will be released on the single which comes out in April!

Since the pictures for the album cover turned out too dark, we’re going to re-shoot tomorrow with the flash on. Hopefully this one works out! I have a vision and I don’t want to change it.

Some details on the album which I think I may have stated before but I’m not sure:

There will be 10-12 tracks on the album which is going to be self titled “Zackery Wilson” and will be physically released in June with the digital release coming a week or so later. The single “Take It Lightly” will be released April 30th. That single will include the album version and the demo version along with the black lettered artwork.

If you head over to the “music” tab in the blog menu you will be directed to my Bandcamp page where you can download the Mental Breakdown EP 100% FREE.

What are you guys most looking forward to this year? Let me know!

Post 37: Take It Lightly

Like i had stated previously, I was thinking about releasing “Take it Lightly” as the first single from my first studio album. And that’s what I’m going to do. I made the cover(s) today and they are below. I can’t decide if I like the one with the writing on it or if I just like it simple with the small title on the top. I’m leaning more towards the one with the big writing. Let me know what you think by commenting:

The single is going to be released onto my Bandcamp page on April 30th which is a Monday! SO MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Also, you may have noticed that the menu up top is a little different. The “Music” tab takes you directly to my bandcamp page and the facebook tab takes you right to my facebook page! I’ve added an about page and soon I’m gonna add a “Photos” page!

Today, I will hopefully have my album cover shoot and when those are all done and edited, they’ll be up for the world to see! I’m so excited! Underwater, here I come!
